Sculptor...volunteer...at the "Gustave Delperdange" quarry.
The work was done at the Gustave Delperdange quarry – currently renamed Carrière sur les Roches – just behind the laboratory. The quarry management and staff were exceptionally kind, patient, and friendly. They did everything they could to help me succeed and provided access to all their infrastructure. They even brought the stones using a bulldozer after levelling out the area where I wanted to work in peace, a little away from the main site. When preparing to transfer the eagle to Mardasson, they created a true boulevard, without any issues. I would like to express a heartfelt thank you to everyone involved.
Sponsorship of the population
Without a minimum of tools, nothing can be done.
That’s why I was obliged to ask
- Help in materials for many people, including diamond discs, sanding discs, burs (for fine-tuning details: eyes, claws, tongue, etc.), dust masks…
- And a whole host of administrative and other services, including translation of various correspondence, video composition, the power point on the statue, transcription and interpretation of the song “The Boys and Bastogne”, meetings and contacts with several veterans thanks to André Meurisse, who lived through the battle and is a self-taught historian of it. For the website, Joel Denis.
The entire population responded with immense enthusiasm… because it was in honor of the GI’s… even though they didn’t know the final outcome of the project… since I’d never undertaken a project of this magnitude. The names of all these people appear on the panel created by Graphicréa- with the help of the Maison du Tourisme de Bastogne. Some people preferred not to mention their names.
